Inner shrine of Chinju Tenmangu Shrine of Sofukuji Temple

A shrine on the grounds of the Sofukuji Temple in Kunoki. The main hall was built in 1576.
In his diary, Kujo Masamoto, the lord of Hinenosho, mentioned Tenjin worship, and Tenjin is still worshipped at this Temmangu Shrine today.

Sofukuji Temple is believed to be the Zenrinji Temple depicted in the Painting of Hineno Village. The inner shrine of Tenmangu Temple is located in the southern part of the grounds. A copy of the munafuda (a sign affixed to the building) dated 1576 is contained within the Dosha Munafuda Hikaecho possessed by Jigen-in Temple, and it is believed that the shrine was erected around that time. Having been built in the Ikkensha Kasuga-zukuri style, the shrine is small, with a 60-cm span between the beams. The roof is covered with cypress bark shingles. When the shrine was dismantled and repaired in 1985, marks on the pillars revealed that the front was built in the misedana-zukuri style, in which only wooden walls are used below the veranda.
